Around Yangshuo rafting

Yuolong River Bamboo Rafting

This part of the Yulong river includes some spectacular scenic views. The languid river is surrounded by a primitive, but pure, natural landscape, combined with green bamboo forests and rolling hills. The winds through rice fields, farm house and thousands of limestone peaks. Most tourist traffic on this river is on small bamboo rafts which you can rent along with a local guide.

Yangshuo West Street

Yangshuo West Street is the beating heart of Yangshuo town. The history of West Street as a tourist center in Yangshuo goes all the way back to the early 1980’s when the street was not even paved. Yangshuo West Street is nowadays the main shopping area. There are many little shops selling anything from local produced paintings, T-shirts, souvenirs and other local curiosa.

The Alley Bar & Restaurant

Yangshuo’s most popular hangout with expats. Live sports, foosball competition on Wednesdays, great selection of imported beers and spirits. A good place to hang out with the locals and have a few beers after a hard days training. It’s central location makes it a great meeting spot and their burgers are certainly worth sampling. On occasion it has been known for Master Fu to join students here for a an early evening drink after a stroll around town.

The Seven Star Tea House

If you spend time in Yangshuo, you may want to find out more about tea culture or “Cha Dao”. If so then visit the Seven Star Tea House on Diecui Road, up near the bus station. The tea house is run by owner Annie Zhou who really does know everyone in town. The tea house cover two floors with a tea shop downstairs and a seated, air conditioned tea rooms upstairs serving everything from soft drinks to snacks and of course tea.

Cormorant Fishing

Cormorant fishing is a very interesting activity to observe and the birds themselves have a very distinctive appearance. Their long necks and large wingspans make them very impressive to behold. They excel at fishing and are used by the local fisherman in Yangshuo who take them out on their bamboo rafts. They can dive underwater and search for fish and then catch them in their beaks and return to the surface.

Kelly’s Cafe

Kelly’s Cafe in Yangshuo is one of the those cafe you easily dismiss but actually is very popular with locals and visitors. So if you want a coffee or even a meal this is a good place to sit and watch the world go by. Try their apple pie and ice cream for a treat. They also have free wifi access so you can catch up with your friends at home.

Around Yangshuo xingping


Xingping is a little village about 20 km north on the east bank of the Li River. Although the town is small, it has a long history and many of the buildings are traditional from Qing and Ming dynasty period. A popular way to visit the village is to cycle to Xingping and take the boat back. It is a must to visit, though try not to come when the Guilin cruise boats arrive.

Liu Sanjie Impressions Lightshow

This spectacular show was created by movie director Zhang Yimou and is performed by local villagers and fishermen, particularly local Zhuang and Yao minority groups. Liu Sanjie is a story about Liu Sanjie, which means “third sister”. It tells the tale of how she had a beautiful voice at very early age. Her voice was so beautiful it even could raise the dead.

Hidden Dragon Roof Top Restaurant

Surrounded by the peaceful mountains, Yulong River meandering through rice paddies, the Hidden Dragon Roof Garden Restaurant offers superb views of the surrounding countryside. The open rooftop restaurant includes an enclosed space and a tea bar. It combines a Wine Bar, which has a very romantic & relaxing atmosphere in the night, with a wide selection of Chinese and western foods, snacks & wines.

Around Yangshuo moonhill


The most visited rock formation around Yangshuo, Moonhill is located a few kilometres south of the Yangshuo town centre and a must see place. Get a bicycle and cycle along the main road south. After a few kilometres you will see Moonhill from the roadside. You can climb up and shoot a few photos. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes (depending on your physical condition to climb up. Views are quite spectacular from inside Moonhill.

These are just a small selection of the wide variety of things you can do in Yangshuo County. You can also go climbing, kayaking, bicycle riding. Tour tea plantations, go for scenic walks, ballooning, take boat cruises go clubbing. Often the school will also organise swimming trips to the secret beach or even the occasional BBQ.
